Salim's Story

Salim’s dance journey began at the age of 7 when he started learning the Chhau dance form in his hometown of Berhampur, Odisha. As he grew older, his passion for dance expanded, and he began exploring contemporary and jazz dance through various resources. Salim graduated in Electronics Engineering from NIST College, Odisha, and entered the IT industry. Despite his career in technology, dance remained a central part of his life, and he dedicated himself to training, performing, and teaching dance professionally.

In 2016, Salim formalized his teaching approach by creating a curriculum for contemporary and jazz dance. Through extensive research and drawing from various resources, he developed a structured program that led to remarkable improvements in his students' abilities. His teaching methods resulted in consistent success for both aspiring dancers and professionals, with his students achieving significant milestones.

In 2021, Salim fulfilled his dream of founding The Dance Stories alongside his wife, Apeksha. Together, they created a space where dancers of all ages and skill levels could learn, grow, and express themselves. Under Salim’s leadership, The Dance Stories has become renowned for its commitment to excellence and innovative dance education. He has also curated and organized Parindey – The Dance Festival along with Apeksha for three consecutive years, creating a platform that celebrates storytelling through movement and showcases emerging and established talent.

Salim has choreographed several well-known works, including Memory, Rush, Bitter Earth, Silent Scream, The Wedding Gown, The Professor’s Eye, Through the Mirror, The Howl of the Eternal Bond, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. His kids' mini production, Stained World, was widely recognized, and his choreography for the Dance World Cup earned his students a bronze medal in contemporary dance. He also choreographed for the Great India Ballet Competition, where his student won a gold medal. These achievements showcase his ability to cultivate talent and push dancers to reach new heights.

Salim is also dedicated to his own growth as an artist. He pursued Kathak under the mentorship of Guru Shri Mohith Sridhar and completed his 4th-year Senior Diploma in the classical dance form, broadening his knowledge and skillset.

Known for his relentless work ethic, Salim continually refines the curriculum at The Dance Stories. His mission is to provide every student with the tools they need to succeed, helping them grow not only in their technical ability but also in their passion and understanding of dance.
